#147: Run
In October, George ran the London Marathon.
Alone, in Lichfield, with no crowd.
I felt like this was the ultimate test of someone’s desire to run a marathon, if it was for the ego of being seen and “ticking it off” there’s no way you’d run the London Marathon in this way.
Still, I saw GB do his training, pound the pavements, put the miles in and commit to running the marathon for himself.
On the eve of the marathon I wrote him this Poem to capture what I’d seen him running for, or to and how his approach to the run, focusing on the journey, the process had inspired me too.
Here’s the poem called Run and a printed version of it too.
I’d love to know how it lands with you, if at all.
Run
Run, not until you can run no more.
Nor, til your body is indelibly sore
or your breath runs out
Do not run to suffer or strife
nor run for your life.
don’t run until your body gives up.
run with love
with hope
with purpose
with freedom
RUN FOR LIFE
and all it means to you
choose which voice to listen to,
the one that tells you to stop
Don’t heed to it.
The one that whispers;
“Keep going”
Believe in it.
Run, to the end.
until, enough.
when your heart says.
you are done.
and no matter the time, nor place
You have won.
Run.
Run,
for you
for I
for us.
Thanks for all the warm and welcoming feedback and kind words on the art and poetry I’ve been sharing. I know it’s not for everyone and people have been unsubscribing, it’s important to me that this newsletter captures all of me, not just Sanctus and all things business. (I do plan on writing about Sanctus and us hiring a CEO soon though)
I’ve also had a few people ask if they can buy my art, which is exciting and scary. George is my first patron! If you’d like a copy of any of the prints, let me know - I feel nervous even mentioning it.
Would love to hear from you as always, I’m off atm so might not get back straight away.
