#146: Art and Poetry
I’ve wanted to share some art and poetry for a while.
I just want them to be seen, not much else. If they inspire anyone here to get doodling or expressing themselves in different ways that would be a win too.
I find that expressing how I feel in different forms is an awesome way for me to feel connected, tap into deeper emotions and just take time out to play and relax too.
It was scary at first, but now I really enjoy it.
(Also a great thing to do during a Lockdown when there's not much else to do!)
Here's a drawing (piece of Art - not sure if you can label something yourself as Art but I've gone for it) and a Poem, both of these I did in the last few months.
This piece is a drawing I did early this year that I’ve got turned into a print because I like it. I’m not quite sure what the story is, but at the time I remember thinking that each line was a person and we’re all interconnected in some way, with some of us coming together to form communities and certain spaces (like the colours)
Talk
Talk over a brew
Or two
Talk for five
Or ten minutes
Talk until you’re finished
Talk when it’s hard to
Especially when it’s hard to
Talk to who you need to
Not to who you have to
Talk a little more than you should
But not just because you could
Say that thing
And that thing
But maybe not that thing,
yet
that’s just yours
Talk to friends
To family
To old friends
To strangers
Talk to your neighbours
And don’t be afraid to Ask for favours
Talk to yourself
(Just maybe not in public)
Write or think or dream
Let yourself speak
Give yourself
a voice
Give yourself
an ear, first
Be your own best friend
Your own confidant
Talk to your best friend
And find a confidant
Talk because it’s free
Talk because you can
Talk to heal
To love
To make sense of all above
Talk to ask the big questions
Talk to process your reflections
Talk to whine
To moan
To vent
To feel
To relent
Talk LOUDLY to make a dent
This poem is also something I wrote recently. I went to see one of my friends and we caught up, it was long overdue. We just talked and I felt in touch with just the art of talking and how simple yet important it is in our life.
Feeling the most nervous I have for a while sharing these! Let me know how they land, if they resonate or if you’d like more. If not, I’ll just stick to good old fashioned writing.
Although I am currently writing a book, so sharing something not just writing is a nice change ;)
